JCollection Homepage

First of all let me thank you for such a nice component. Very useful and very nicely done.

I am using Collection Manager on my site HobbyAlbum.com.

Wondering whether I should move to JCollection. Though I do not have any additional needs and am very happy with Collection Manager. But just wondering if I will get some extra features in JCollection or something else.

So what you suggest:
- Should I move to JCollection
- How smooth is the migration
- Any scripts for migration.

Hi,
well, JCollection was written "from scratch", so it is an entirely different system which is way more flexible than Collection Manager (which reached its "end-of-lifetime", i.e. I will not add new features to it). Main differences: JCollection supports different webservices (not only Amazon), more than one info set per item, and it is written for Joomla 1.5. On the other hand, due to the flexibility, it may also be slower than Collection Manager and more difficult to configure. Also, I consider it still "beta", since there are still some issues (esp. with caching and some of the parameter settings). For a smooth transition, there is an import filter for Collection Manager items to JCollection (both can be installed in parallel and JCollection can then import from Collection Manager's database). You can try if this works for you!
