TOPIC: Adding from Amazon
#276
Adding from Amazon 6 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I installed the latest beta and am having real problems adding books from Amazon.

On the backend, I look up the amazon id and it finds it, but when I save the resulting screen is blank with a number, like "-1" or "3" at various times. The fields aren't populated but it saved the amazon id. I tried the permanent overwrite and that gave the same thing when editing the item and didn't give that number from the menu of items but didn't change anything.

From the front end, the import wizard worked once very well, so I know it's possible. However, most times the result from the webservice lookup doesn't show up. There's no button to have it pop up, so I am mostly just waiting. Interestingly enough, it seemed to work less the more times I tried it. I tried it in chrome and firefox, and it worked once or twice in each. Javascript is enabled.

Hi,
this is really strange, I just double-checked the Amazon connectivity, and here everything works fine. The "blank-page-with-number" issue when using chrome should be gone with the latest release (as of today), please report back if it still occurs! One thing that might confuse things in the backend is that indeed you need to click "save" in the middle of the page for saving the info set, and then click "save" on the top of the page to save the item. The previous versions did an automated save of the info set when saving the item, but this is exactly which caused the "blank page with a number" issue on chrome (firefox was fine).
In the frontend, the wizard uses some Ajax javascript magic to fetch and display the Amazon results, but again, here it works at the moment. Could it have been a temporary problem on Amazon's side?
HTH for now,
Thorsten.
