Whenever i get to the end of step 3 (click save), it simply returns a white page with -1 in the topleft corner.

Also I've deleted a couple of items and whenever i try to make an item with the name of those deleted, it says "Error saving changes".

the first issue seems related to AJAX... do you have javascript activated? What browser are you using? Did you try different browsers?
For the second issue: did you "delete" or "trash" the items? When "trashing", the item is still there and just flagged as trashed, hence it is not possible to create a new item with the same name. To see the trashed items, select the state "Trashed" in the backend items view.

I was using Chrome with javascript enabled. Using Firefox it seems to work perfectly.

Concerning the delete vs trash, i obviously presed trash

Thank you for your help! It seems that I've run into a couple of other problems but I'll experiment a bit before coming back for help.

Thanks for your reports, obviously I'll have to check that chrome incompatibility (however, it might be related to the mootools javascript library which ships with Joomla, in this case I cannot fix that - I'll try to find out)!
