TOPIC: DVD Profiler

DVD Profiler 2 Years, 2 Months ago
Hallo!

Ich habe zwei Fragen zu jcollection.

Hi,
I try to keep this forum in English since most users do not speak German. Just a quick translation of your questions:
1. is it possible to access the Amazon webservice without signing up for the Amazon associates program
- no. Amazon changed their webservice scheme such that every webservice request needs to be signed, and this signature is created using a secret key which can only be obtained by signing up for the associates program. IMO this is a very, very annoying move by Amazon.
2. Is it possible to "read in" XML files created by "DVD profiler"?
- I haven't heard of that before, so at the moment: no. What is the actual demand: dynamically reading in the XML file, which is created on-line, and then display the information according to that file, or is it more a "data import", i.e. load the XML file from a local computer and convert it to JCollection items?
Both scenarios could be realized fairly easy, I'd just need to know which one is the one you need and the XML format description.
Regards,
Thorsten.

Hi Thorsten!

Thanks for the quick reply.

The XML file is created on the computer and then manually uploaded to the web server by ftp. After that I have to update the database on the server (there is a special menu where I can do it.). Then I have to upload the pictures of the new DVDs. So it is a “data import” with a manual update.

Converting this XML file to JCollection items is what I thought. In other words, uploading the XML file and all DVDs are simply there - with all the information and without using amazon or any other account (and there is the big advantage that this information will never be changed by amazon or anybody else). And on the other hand I don’t have to create 250 items…
Since don’t know what you mean by “XML format description” I can send you a link (or an email with attachment) for downloading a complete file (with about 200 DVDs) or a file with only one DVD (the necessary information should be the same).

Have a nice one!

Hi,
ok, importing an XML file should not be a big deal. However, I would need a description of the structure of the XML file, or at least one or two examples, to be able to write the import filter. I think DVD profiler is a commercial program, and I could not find any information about the XML file format on their website, so maybe there is no such description?

Thorsten.
