Amazon Product API - 2 Years, 7 Months ago
I am using Collection and have Amazon interface to pull information regarding books etc. I have got this mail:

We wanted to remind you that all Product Advertising API developers will be required to authenticate all calls to the Product Advertising API by August 15, 2009. We noticed that requests with your AWS Access Key ID are not being signed

Whether my implementation is wrong or this is how it works. Are you doing something to address this new requirement of Amazon.

Hi,
well, JCollection supports the new Amazon signature procedure, however, this requires users to actually sign up with the Amazon developer network to get a "secret" key that is used for signing, and then to enter this key into the component. Basically, Amazon killed open source applications (like JCollection) that use its services with this incredibly annoying move, since many users will most likely not want to sign up with Amazon, and hence the application will not work out-of-the-box.
As for the old Collection Manager Component, if there is enough demand (and possibly some donations *cough*), I'll add the signature ability to this as well.
Thorsten.

Thanx. I had signed up for Amazon Developer Network.

Anyway let me try out JCollection...

On Collection, can help with something other than donation as hands are tight in financial crisis

Does JCollection use an AWS method that requires payment to AWS? I notice there are some AWS free services, and some AWS pay services.

Without installing JCollection and seeing if AWS charges money for what JCollection is requesting of AWS, can you provide a Yes or No whether JCollection's use of AWS would cause an AWS charge or not?

Thanks!

Hi,
no, Amazon does not charge (yet) for people using their information to advertise their products (so that they make money). However, I would not be surprised if they did charge money in the future.
The service that JCollection uses is called "Product Advertising API" and is not really advertised on the AWS page, it has rather moved to the associates pages.
Best,
Thorsten.
